Major Accomplishments:

  • In October of 2006, CEG was awarded a federal grant from a subcontract from the SAMHSA/CSAP through a contract with McFarland & Associates, Silver Spring, Maryland.

  • CEG was able to secure the first 2007 SAMHSA/CSAP Faith Partners conference, which was held on November 6-7, 2006 at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC.

  • With these funds, CEG partnered with several local churches and implemented the SISTA project (Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS) throughout the Charleston community. During the SISTA Empowerment Sessions, 12 community facilitators from six churches were trained in the CDC curriculum and more than 75 adult females were directly impacted.

  • CEG also conducted educational presentations to the Crisis Ministries Homeless Shelter, YWCA WOW program and Florence Crittenton Day program, reaching over 60 females.

  • In addition to educating adult females, CEG has provided several "Youth, Abstinence, Sex & HIV" presentations throughout the area reaching over 150 youth.

  • CEG has established numerous community partners to collaborate in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Future Projects: CEG plans to continue educating adult females using the SISTA project and implement the SiHLE youth program (Sisters Informing Healing Learning Empowering) throughout the Charleston community. This program was developed to address the STI/HIV/AIDS needs of adolescent girls, which was originally implemented in the South due to the high prevalence of these diseases.
